Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche
Dungsey Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche is a master of Buddhist meditation and philosophy under the Kagyu and Nygma traditions. Born in India in October 1970, he is the heir to the Ripa spiritual lineage, a line of reincarnated lamas that dates back to the 17th century in Eastern Tibet; he is the head of the lineage’s monasteries in India and Nepal and the spiritual leader of a Tibetan community residing in exile in the state of Orissa, India.
Since 1996, Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche has travelled extensively in Asia, Europe and the USA, giving lectures and seminars to a lay audience on topics as varied as meditation for the modern world, Eastern wisdom for modern complexity, goodness and creativity, authentic presence for leaders, etc. Rinpoche is the spiritual leader of over 6000 students all over the world and has opened teaching centers in Switzerland, France, Luxemburg, Spain, Germany, Russia, Japan and USA.
Throughout his intensive travelling, Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche has attracted increasing interest from individual and institutional donors, moved by the social and humanitarian work he has tiredlessly undertaken to improve the well-being of thousands of Tibetans living in exile in Orissa. In 2000, he launched the Pure Water Project connecting over 500 households to tanks of purified water in the Tibetan settlement of Chandragiri and the neighbouring indigenous communities of Orissa. Other projects include a malaria prevention and treatment program, support programs for orphans, school children, monks and the elderly. In 2015, following the devastating earthquake that played havock in Nepal, Rinpoche launched the Mero Gaun (My Village) initiatative, aimed to rebuild villages of Nepal providing basic housing facilities utilizing the natural local resources and the man power of the villages.
A socially engaged Buddhist teacher, as he is happy to be named, his direct understanding of the human mind, his lively and spontaneous speaking style and his crispiness and sense of humour make him a very relevant speaker in a variety of settings, especially in helping lay practitionners of all walks of life integrate traditional spiritual values into modern life.
