We welcome the Tibetan Year 2152 – the Year of the Wood Snake!

Tibetans consider Losar or the ‘Tibetan New Year’ as an auspicious time to renew one’s life. Losar-related rituals consist of two different parts over three days:

In the first part, on the 29th day of the 12th month, Tibetans, like Buddhists, bid farewell to the old year and let go of all negative or harmful aspects. This includes cleaning their house/room from top to bottom, including the outside staircase.

In the second part, on the 30th day, Tibetans spend a busy day cooking and preparing for the new year.

Finally, on the third day, they welcome Losar with healing prayers and by inviting all that is good and auspicious into their homes and lives.

This year we celebrate Losar on Friday 28 February with a Lhasang, a smoke offering ritual dedicated to King Gesar. We will make a big fire to which we will make tsampa, and other offerings and our wishes to welcome Losar, the new year, together with you.
