How to teach compassion, patience and kindness to our children
– Public Lecture by Lhuntrul Dechen Gyurmey Rinpoche
In the House of Religions, Bern
10:00 – 12:00 AM & 2:30 – 4:30 PM
Children are unprejudiced, have an open heart, a sharpened instinct and countless questions. All too often, they can push us to our own limits, only to unexpectedly grow from them together. We help determine which perspectives we open up for them. A gentle, wide, loving heart in which they have complete trust – that is what we wish for our children!
Buddhism is the source of many teachings that help us through these turbulent times through meditation, mindfulness training, spiritual practice. But how can wisdom and spirituality be conveyed to the younger generation, how can we explain and model patience to the youngest, how can we authentically convey to children that they can have complete trust in their gentle, wide, loving heart.
Lhuntrul Dechen Rinpoche is a Tibetan Buddhist scholar and father of three children. For many years he has given teachings in the West and led spiritual retreats in Europe, the USA, Russia, Ukraine and at the Ripa International Center. He is also the spiritual director of the Ripa Monastery in Nepal with 100, mostly young, monks. He thus combines profound knowledge of Buddhist philosophy and lived experience in guiding young human beings to their inherent goodness.

Lhuntrul Dechen Gyurmey Rinpoche was born, in keeping with Guru Rinpoche’s prophecy, in 1976 as the son of His Eminence Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche and Khandro Chime Drolkar. He was recognized as the reincarnation of Jigme Tempay Gyeltsen, the 3rd Tamdrin Lhunpo Chogtrul. In conjunction with his recognition, he was enthroned at Namdroling monastery in Mysore amidst an ocean of lamas, tulkus, and monks presided over by Kyabje Drupwang Penor Rimpoche, who bestowed upon him the name Gyurme Thegchog Shedrub Tenpay Gyeltsen.
